Argumentative Essay On Animal Cruelty - 744 Words

â€Å"Americans have been keeping wild animals in captivity for entertainment purposes for more than 150 years† causing many animals to live horrible lives in imprisonment. I believe the imprisonment of animals for human entertainment to be Animal Cruelty. Animal Cruelty is the crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal. The first U.S Zoo, the Philadelphia Zoo opened in 1874. This opened a path for others to go out into the wild and capture wild, exotic animals to show off to the public and make money. Many make this seem harmless by releasing the animals back into the wild, causing more problems. The capturing of animals results many to become a risk to endangerment. Now, ironically, the capturing of animals is†¦show more content†¦Circuses to me, are the most cruel to animals when training for acts, animals are whipped if they make a mistake instead of being loved. Animals being used for entertainment thwarts the animals natural behavior and instinct. In Circuses, animals are forced to do unnatural acts and get punished if they do not do it right. Therefore, they lose their instincts as they become accustomed to the circus acts. Animals all have a natural behavior and instincts they are born with made to survive in their habitat/environment. When animals are captured and trained to do other than what they are used to they lose the knowledge of being able to depend on themselves and become dependent and the humans that captured them. A 26- year old orca was released into the wild after being kept imprisoned for years to film a movie called â€Å"Free Willy†. The orca was taught how to survive in his environment before being released but was accustomed to having human companions and died a year after being released because he did not recognize a life without humans. This shows the long-term effect of capturing a wild animal and keeping it imprisoned for a long period of time. Wild animals are meant to be wild and stay in the wild. When animals have human companionship for a long time they become used to the idea of being around humans and doing tricks/acts to avoid punishment.
